A daily devotional through the Bible speaking with God as Adam and Eve may have in the garden east of Eden. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com

Many look at the feeding of the 5000 as a wonderful miracle, and it is, but it is so much more than just meeting the physical needs of the men, women and children who gathered on the mountainside that day. I saw an opportunity to feed souls, but before men can listen, their baser needs must be met. A hungry belly speaks louder than a great orator. The miracle allowed them to stay, the changed lives captivated them to want them to stay.

God never gives us more than we can handle. Abraham had an extreme test of faith only because God prepared him for it. He will test us along our Christian journey of faith, but he will never test us beyond what we can handle. He wants us to pass his tests. He wants us to live victoriously. If he thought Abraham were not up to the challenge, he would not have asked him to sacrifice his son. Listen to his words and see the confidence in his voice.

Today's Bible reading plans include:

Ready - Genesis 22

Set - Genesis 22; Luke 8

Go! - Genesis 20-22; Luke 8

The centurion showed the Jews around Jesus and us what faith is all about. It knows no boundaries of time or space. Faith just believes God can! Whatever he needs to do, he can do it. He doesn't always do what we want him to do. We don't always know why. Job didn't. God finally restored him and he didn't know why he did that either. Through all of the his trials Job just believed, though. God asks us to do the same. Just like the centurion, God asks us to believe with the unmatched faith of the centurion and know that he will do what is best for us in every circumstance.

Today's Bible reading plans include:

Ready - Luke 7:1-17; Psalms 3

Set - Genesis 18; Psalms 3; Luke 7

Go! - Genesis 18-19; Psalms3; Luke7

We get caught up in the question of judging others. Jesus sets us straight. We can see behavior, but not thoughts. Words get us tangled because of mixed meanings and understanding. Don't judge intent! Bad can mean good today. Or it can mean bad. Did that mean good? You get the point. Unless you know the context, the tone, my filter at the moment, you don't know what I said. That's how most of our language gets mixed and confused and the tensions build between people today. We think we know what was heard or said when we really have no clue. Jesus says clean up your heart first then begin to help others. Just pour our forgiveness and grace and you'll be okay.

Today's Bible reading plans include:

Ready - Luke 6:37-49

Set - Genesis 15; Luke 6

Go! - Genesis 15-17; Luke 6

The story of Christ's temptation is more than sharing Jesus' confrontation with Satan. It lets us know he faced every kind of temptation we face. He underwent trials, suffering, pain, sorrow, agony, desire, all the emotions we face and showed us how to overcome them. He knows we happens to us from a human standpoint. Jesus understands our world because he lived with us. Now he gives us his spirit to help us overcome those same temptations and makes a way of escape for us. we have a perfect advocate in him.

Today's Bible reading plans include:

Ready - Luke 4:1-30

Noah and his family made it out of the flood because he found favor with God. He found favor with God because he did want God wanted him to do. A simple formula for life. Following God isn't always easy, but it is simple. He doesn't make his rules complex. The difficult part is getting past our ego and, like Noah, putting up with some of the ridicule and humiliation that might come with going against the grain of society. Is it worth it? Ask Noah when you see him. I think he would give you a resounding yes!

Today's Bible reading plans include:

Ready - Genesis 6

Set - Genesis 6-7; Luke 3:1-22

Go! - Genesis 6-8; Luke 3

Today's Scripture Focus

Matthew 4:4

devotional summary

Jesus made fasting a habit. This forty day fast was not His first fast. He was familiar with the practice and fasted often as a spiritual discipline to ready Himself for the mission His heavenly Father had for His human side. He used those times of fasting to become master of His body, not the other way around. Jesus understood pain and suffering. He knew sleepless nights and hunger. He knew poverty and hard work to just get by in the eyes of the world. Jesus mastered His humanness just like He asks us to do. He did it the same way we can, through practiced disciplines…every day.

Second, Jesus absorbed the scriptures. He knew them. He memorized them. He knew what the Father meant by each word, each sentence, each paragraph and section because He studied them. Jesus made the scriptures a significant part of His life so that when the temptations of life came and His humanness wanted to take an easy way out, He could lean on those scriptures to help Him through the temptations without falling to them. He asks us to do the same.
